Introduction
Dr. Md. Sarwar Jahan
Dr. Md. Sarwar Jahan was born in 1981 in Haridagachhi village, Mohanpur, Rajshahi. He graduated MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 2006. He then completed postgraduate training under eminent professors at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and, finally, the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR). In January 2019 he earned the FCPS in Orthopaedic Surgery from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), placing 1st DMCAN and 7th Fellow.
Dr. Sarwar completed advanced training in orthopaedic and spine surgery under internationally recognised spine and orthopaedic surgeon Professor Dr. Md. Shah Alam, and currently works with him as a research associate. Professor Shah Alam is Vice President of the Bangladesh Spine Society, served as head of orthopaedic surgery at Sir Salimullah Medical College, NITOR and Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and founded Bangladesh Spine & Orthopedic Hospital (BSOH), Kallyanpur, Dhaka — an APSS-recognised hospital where doctors from many countries train in spine surgery every year.
Dr. Sarwar currently serves as a Consultant in the Orthopaedic and Spine department at NITOR (Pongu Hospital), a 1,000-bed institution regarded as one of the largest orthopaedic hospitals in the world, with separate super-speciality units and a long academic tradition of training orthopaedic specialists.
At NITOR and several private hospitals, Dr. Sarwar has performed many orthopaedic and spine surgeries and continues to do so, alongside research in spine and orthopaedic surgery. He has taken part in national and international conferences and presented original scientific papers. His research on TB Spine, ACDF and Spondylolisthesis has been published in the Asian Spine Journal, with further papers in process.
Colleagues know Dr. Sarwar as courteous, sincere and disciplined, warm with colleagues and patients alike, hard-working, and keenly interested in new technologies and innovation in spine surgery.
